“Hey, I was hoping you’d come back to the office,” DiFazio said from the doorway. “I’ve been waiting for you. I was told you always put in the extra hours. Maybe we could go over those cases you assigned me.”

Hollis bit her bottom lip to suppress her vague irritation and an accompanying retort. “DiFazio, I didn’t think we’d set a time for today to have our meeting.”

“We didn’t, but I’m ready anytime you are.”

“Well, why don’t you give me a half hour to settle in, and we’ll meet in the law library. You can spread the files out on the large table.”

He gave her a mock two-finger salute. “Works for me.”

It didn’t take her long to return phone calls and grab a cup of tea. She sipped as she played back Vince’s second thank you. Later, she would tackle the inquiries from a couple of new clients and send an acceptance to John for an invitation to dinner at home and a DVR movie.

She smiled. She’d be glad when he got home.
